What are GMOs?

A genetically modified organism (GMO) contains DNA that has been altered using genetic engineering. This process involves taking a gene from one organism and inserting it into the DNA of another organism. GMOs are used to create crops that are resistant to pests or herbicides, or to produce foods with enhanced nutritional value.

GMOs and Animal Consumption

When animals eat GMO foods, the DNA in the GMO food does not transfer into the DNA of the animal that eats it. This is because the DNA in GMO foods is broken down by the digestive system, just like the DNA in any other food.
