A jury has been empaneled for the trial of Alec Baldwin, who is facing charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a film set in New Mexico nearly three years ago.

Background of the Case

On October 21, 2021, Baldwin was holding a gun on the set of the film Rust when it fired, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. The actor has denied responsibility for the shooting, claiming that he did not know the gun was loaded with live ammunition.

An investigation by the New Mexico District Attorney's office determined that there was sufficient evidence to charge Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter. The actor is facing two charges: one for involuntary manslaughter related to Hutchins' death and one for involuntary manslaughter related to Souza's injuries.

Jury Selection

The jury selection process began on Monday, January 23, and concluded on Wednesday, February 1. The jury of six men and six women will hear the case in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
