Red Sox Win 6-2, Advance to Division Series

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees 6-2 in the American League Wild Card Game on Tuesday night, the first contest of the 2023 Major League Baseball playoffs.

The Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Xander Bogaerts. They added another run in the second inning on an RBI single by Rafael Devers.

The Yankees got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Aaron Judge. They cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Giancarlo Stanton.

The Red Sox extended their lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Alex Verdugo. They added two more runs in the eighth inning on a two-run single by Devers.

Nick Pivetta started for the Red Sox and allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out six batters and walked one.

Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out eight batters and walked two.

The Red Sox will now face the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series. The Yankees' season is over.
